BET surface analysis of nanoparticles Solids Solutions carries out, among other things, a BET surface analysis of nanoparticles in the laboratory. We do this by means of physical gas adsorption, where an inert gas is adsorbed on the surface of a solid. In most cases nitrogen is suitable to be used, but some substances require a different kind of gas, such as carbon dioxide or argon. By means of gas adsorption, several things can be calculated, such as the specific surface area, but also the pore volume and the pore size distribution. We generally use two different techniques to get the desired information. Which one we use depends on the information needed.
